Tough crowd

I’ll admit it; you all are a tough crowd.

It’s hard getting in touch with people. I know in this day and age that sounds ridiculous. But as the owner of a new web site I feel the pain. I suppose I should explain more about why I ditched Etsy and have tried to move away from Facebook…

Honestly, Etsy is hard to maintain and they nickel and dime you to death. Do me a favor; go to Etsy and simply type in the search bar…Crochet hat. You’ll come up with 20 pages matching that criteria. There are 60 items on each page for a total of 1,200 crochet hats. In order for your item to show up on the first page as a seller you have to PAY Etsy. The more you’re willing to pay, the more often your item will show up. You’re not the only seller paying Etsy to feature your crochet hat. There are some super talented crocheters out there that make gorgeous hats. So you try to drive more customers to your Etsy shop and search on your shop name rather than by item. That means a post on Instagram or Facebook for me. And guess what? You have to PAY to boost those posts so that not only do your followers see the advertisement, but customers shopping for like items will see your ad, too. All of these ads and marketing strategies cost the seller a lot. If you’re not bringing in revenue from sales, you find yourself in the red every month. I wanted to expand my viewing area on Facebook, so I budgeted a lot for marketing. If that had been remotely successful I might have considered staying with Facebook, but guess what? It wasn’t successful. My comments and inquiries were nothing but spam. To say the least it was frustrating. I felt trapped doing so much marketing and paying out monthly; providing content and pics just to get an inbox full of spam. I wasn’t doing much creatively and I wasn’t selling anything either.

I get that it’s not the easiest way to see what I’m doing. I wish I could change the way Facebook operates, but until I start to earn some real, tangible income I just can’t afford to do it.

Which is why I need your help. Visit my site. Share my site. Comment on my site. Eventually I will start to list items for sale on my site. I appreciate your support and love my local following of customers. They are the reason I do what I do. <3
